Organization and volunteers
We would like to say that Children with Future in Zambia is relatively a young organsation and we have started our projects and volunteer program for several good reasons. We would like orphans and vulnerable children to meet people from abroad and learn more from them as well as give people from outside an opportunity to experience "Zambia the Real Africa" and understand difficulties our country is facing in reality. Children with Future in Zambia does not discriminate, so everyone is welcome to work with us despite the race, colour, age, e.t.c all are welcome as long as one has a heart to help the poor!
Why to become a volunteer in Zambia?
Although Zambia is one of the developing countries in Africa, it still encounters big problems such as poverty, HIV/Aids and lack of good education. Hoewver, Zambia is also nice country with the Mighty Victoria Falls, national safari parks, the mining industry and full of people who strive to improve their life conditions and develope their country.
What is our volunteer program?
Our programme for volunteers involve:
Teaching English and other subjects, HIV/AIDS education and other related programs
Apart from teaching the children, volunteers are also encouraged to organize and lead sporting activities, drama or music classes in cooperation with teachers.
HIV/Aids Awarness Campaign
During duration of the volunteer’s stay, volunteers can get involved in HIV/ AIDS awareness campaigns. Our members of the organization, who are professional nurses, help them to prepare and conduct HIV/Aids awarness workshop/action, which take place in villages and rural areas around Kitwe and Lumwana Community.
Who can be a volunteer?
Anyone who has a kind heart and really wants to help orphans and vulnerable children in Zambia to increase their chances of having a better life in a future is welcome. Anyone who is ready to experience "the african real life".
How long can I stay?
The ideal period of time to stay is dependent on the volunteer themselves, but 3-4 weeks is the minimum whenever during the year.
Where does the program take place?
Volunteers are involved in teaching and spend more time with pupils from the CFZ community schools in Kitwe, Lumwana and Nakonde.
The right venues for HIV/AIDS awareness campains is chosen by volunteers and our nurses. Workshops are usually held in rural areas of Kitwe and Lumwana.
How many people can join the program?
We recommend to volunteers to come together with their friends (2 – 3 people) as teaching and campaingning will be easier and more fun for them. However, individuals are also highly welcome! There is a possibity of introducing and meeting other volunteers, who would like to come at the same time.
How much does it cost?
The cost of provided accomodation and meals is $150 per week. This amount of money goes to the family, where the volunteer will stay at.
There is an entry fee of $100 for students and $200 for non students. These monies are used for supporting CFZ projects.
Volunteer pays for a flight ticket, other travel expenses as visa, insurance and local travelling expenses (buses/taxis). Optionally other small expenses like using internet in internet cafes or extra food.
Where will I stay?
You will stay with one of the CFZ members family. This family will provide a nice bed and take care of you during your stay
What shall I take with me?
It is good to come prepared for the program you will do in Zambia. Our organization and the community schools do not own much of school material and equipment like sport equipment, equipment for art lessons, computers etc. We woul like to organize every aspect of the program together with volunteers before they set off their journey.
It is also important to come with you a mosquito net, a torch, a camera, a laptop e.t.c...
What will I eat?
Zambian food. Nshima.
Is it safe?
In Zambia you should follow the basic safety rules as watching your belongings, avoid moving out late night, count return money when paying etc. However Zambia is peaceful country. As an organization it is our interest to keep our volunteers safe.
It is definately important to have a good insurance for travelling in Africa. Our members will surely help you with any troubles you can meet.
What can I do in my spare time?
Kitwe and Lumwana are not a tourist towns, but you will find it interesting that these are the mining towns in Zambia, thus one will have an opportunity to see the real mining activities - where you can see both open pit and underground mining. It is really interesting!!
